Choosing the correct base size is one of the most important steps in customizing a hair system. The base is the foundation of your unit—it determines how much of your scalp will be covered and directly affects comfort, fit, and appearance.
🔍 What is The Base Size?
Base size refers to the physical dimensions of the hair system—measured in inches—that determine how much of your scalp the unit will cover.
🧱 Standard Base Sizes (Ready-to-Wear or Stock Units)
Most pre-made or stock hair systems come in the following standard sizes:
• 6” x 8”
• 6” x 9”
• 7” x 9”
• 8” x 10”
These sizes work for most common balding patterns. If you need something outside these dimensions, a custom base is recommended for the best fit.
✂️ Custom Base Size Classifications
Custom systems are classified based on their surface area and dimensions:
1. Partial Size (Frontal or Patch)
• Size: Up to 7” x 10”
• Surface Area: Up to 70 square inches
• Ideal For:
• Early-stage hair loss
• Receding hairlines
• Crown thinning or bald spots
• Benefits: Lightweight and discreet. Often used for frontal or spot coverage.
2. Regular Size (Topper)
• Size: Between 7” x 10” and 8” x 10”
• Surface Area: 70–80 square inches
• Ideal For:
• Typical male pattern baldness
• Coverage from the front hairline to the crown
• Benefits: The most popular size; balanced for comfort and coverage.
3. Oversize (Larger Topper)
• Size: Between 8” x 10” and 10” x 10”
• Surface Area: 80–100 square inches
• Ideal For:
• More advanced hair loss
• Coverage needed on the top, back, and part of the sides
• Benefits: Offers more coverage while remaining lighter than a full cap.
4. Full Cap
• Size: Larger than 10” x 10”
• Surface Area: Over 100 square inches
• Ideal For:
• Complete scalp coverage
• Full hair loss (due to alopecia, chemotherapy, etc.)
• Benefits: Total transformation with full customization, from temples to nape.
📏 How to Measure Base Size
▶️ For Partial, Regular, or Oversize Systems
Length (Front to Back)
1- Place a soft measuring tape at the center of your front hairline.
2- Measure straight across the top of your head to where the bald area ends—usually the crown or rear edge of thinning.
Width (Side to Side)
1- Start 1 inch behind the temple on one side.
2- Measure across the top of your head to the same point on the other side.
📐 How to Measure for a Full Cap System
Full cap systems require seven key measurements to ensure a precise, comfortable fit:
1- Circumference
• Measure around your entire head, starting at the front hairline, over the ears, and around the nape.
2- Front to Nape
• From the center of your front hairline to the bottom of your hairline at the nape.
3- Ear to Ear Across Forehead
• From one temple, across the forehead, to the opposite temple.
4- Temple to Temple Over Top
• From sideburn to sideburn, across the top of your head.
5- Ear to Ear Over Crown
• From the top of one ear, across the crown, to the top of the other ear.
6- Temple to Temple Around the Back
• From one temple, around the back of the head (above the occipital bone), to the other temple
7- Nape Width
• Measure across the back of the neck, from one mastoid bone (behind the ear) to the other.

🎯 Tips for Accurate Measuring
• Use a cloth measuring tape for flexibility.
• Keep the tape snug, not tight, and make sure it lies flat.
• Avoid twists or loops in the tape.
• Repeat each measurement 2–3 times to confirm accuracy.
• For maximum precision, consider creating a custom template with plastic wrap and tape, or send in a well-fitting hair system to be copied.
